Science and Technology CLIENT: MarkWest PROJECT TYPE: New Laboratory Design SERVICES PROVIDED: Civil Structural Mechanical Electrical LOCATION: Washington, PA MarkWest MarkWest Energy Partners, LP operated a product control laboratory at its fractionation facility that needed replacement due to the existing facility being within a blast rated area because of plant expansion. PEDCO now IMEG designed a new laboratory outside of the blast zone. PEDCO now IMEG reviewed the new location for the control lab, designed foundations, and designed site work including location of sanitary waste, storm water, domestic water, and fire water service to the new facility. Mechanically, new HVAC, hood exhaust, and gas piping systems were designed. Electrical, new internal and external lighting, electrical service and distribution within the building, tele/data, and fire alarm were designed. The laboratory facility also included offices, break room, and indoor and outdoor cylinder storage areas. Back to Projects
CLIENT: Marathon Petroleum PROJECT TYPE: Laboratory Renovation SERVICES PROVIDED: Mechanical Electrical Construction Administration LOCATION: Catlettsburg, Kentucky SIZE: RAD Laboratories 4,000 SF Control Laboratories 10,000 SF Marathon Petroleum Laboratory Upgrades Marathon Petroleum Company was interested in improving the heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and electrical systems serving its Refining Analysis and Development (RAD) and Control Laboratories at its Catlettsburg Refining facility in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. The laboratory buildings needed to be divided into chemical and fire control areas and PEDCO now IMEG designed modifications to the existing walls to create the two 1-hour rated control areas needed in the building. The exhaust system serving the RAD laboratories was redesigned to provide Marathon full redundancy with a manifolded exhaust system to meet reliability goals of the project. PEDCO now IMEG’s design resulted in a coordinated HVAC and exhaust system that met static pressure requirements as well as appropriate heating and cooling to maintain desired temperature in the labs. PEDCO now IMEG also developed a phased approach for replacing existing electric panels within the labs to provide needed flexibility with power requirements without causing major disruptions during construction. The renovation of the Technology Center and Laboratories required the occupied space to remain operational during construction. PEDCO now IMEG’s project goals consisted of creating a functional, natural flowing space. The renovated space is designed to retain and attract multi-generational talent, encouraging collaboration between teams, all while creating quiet workspace needed by some employees. PEDCO not IMEG also developed a brand identity for PILOT facilities with a focus on the history, industry and technology aspects of the company. Back to Projects
Science & Technology Science & Technology Science & Technology Science & Technology Science & Technology CLIENT: Procter and Gamble PROJECT TYPE: Laboratory Consolidation & Renovation SERVICES PROVIDED: Mechanical Electrical Plumbing Structural LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH SIZE: 58,000 SF P&G Research Laboratory P&G needed to consolidate two research laboratories into one newly renovated laboratory capable of handling large volumes of flammable, combustible, and hazardous liquids. The newly consolidated laboratory was relocated into an existing office building and pilot research facility. The new facility included wet-chemistry laboratories, a scale-up research laboratory, flammable storage rooms, and constant-temperature constant-humidity storage rooms. The project kicked-off with a programming study to analyze the feasibility of combining the multiple laboratories into one. Once complete, PEDCO now IMEG provided engineering design services for the new laboratories. The mechanical systems for the project featured three new variable air volume manifold laboratory exhaust systems for the bench top and walk-in type fume hoods and general exhaust. Three new make-up air handling units and variable air volume make-up systems to the laboratory spaces were provided. New utilities including nitrogen, argon, helium, vacuum air, compressed air, and RO water were provided for the new laboratory spaces. The existing building electrical power supply required upgrades for the new laboratories. The electrical design included new electrical distribution for the laboratories and associated research equipment. The project included a backup power generator. Back to Projects
